
Deanne Fitzmaurice is a Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist recognised for her ability to build trust and tell powerful human stories through long-term projects. She was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography in 2005 for “Operation Lion Heart,” following the recovery of a young Iraqi boy injured by war. Based in San Francisco, she spent nearly two decades as a staff photographer at the San Francisco Chronicle, covering major social, political, and environmental events, from the AIDS crisis to natural disasters and national sports.
Her work has been widely published in National Geographic, TIME, The New York Times Magazine, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, and The Economist. A Nikon Ambassador and co-founder of Think Tank Photo, she also works with leading global brands and non-profits including Apple, Nike, Facebook, Google, NPR, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Fitzmaurice has judged leading competitions such as College Photographer of the Year, American Photography Awards, and Communication Arts, and regularly lectures and mentors the next generation of photojournalists.
