We appreciate that everyone is busy. Online judging can become a burden due to the required scoring completion deadlines competing with other pressing matters you may have to attend to.
During the design of this scoring platform for IFPA, we have eliminated the need for separate detailed scoring criteria for Rounds 1 and 2 as published in the rules. To speed up the process and simplify judging, we combined them into a single list to collect your scores and any comments in Round 1. We endeavoured to provide you with all the information so that you can make an informed judgment during Round 1
Entries are judged singularly and in the context of the entire essay using the following criteria:
THE COMBINED SCORE TABLES NOW INCLUDE ROUND 1 & ROUND 2 CRITERIA – CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING WHEN SCORING
- When reviewing an entry, carefully assess the following criteria:
- Essay Title & Description: Evaluate the clarity and relevance of the essay. Rate from 1 (min) to 10 (max).
- The Photos Represent the Category: Consider how well the images fit the category. Rate from 1 (min) to 10 (max).
- Ratio of Strong Images that Deliver the Message: Assess the proportion of impactful images. Rate from 1 (min) to 10 (max).
- Good Selection and Sequencing of Images: Review the flow and organisation of the photo series. Rate from 1 (min) to 5 (max).
- Captions Easy to Understand: Determine if captions provide clear and relevant information. Rate from 1 (min) to 5 (max).
- Good Image Exposures & Clarity: Assess the technical quality of the exposures. Rate from 1 (min) to 5 (max).
- Appropriate Part of Images in Focus: Check if the focus enhances the storytelling. Rate from 1 (min) to 5 (max).
- Be sure to save your scores before moving on to the next submission.
Generally the ratings you apply to the score boxes should range from 1-9 and the score of 10 in the first 5 criteria should be set reserved for what you consider exceptional.
After all the scores for round one are submitted by each of the jury members, those scores will be combined and averaged to create a leaderboard for Round 2. Round 2 will automatically open after the completion of judgments in Round 1.
ROUND 2 RATING
You will receive an email to advise you when Round 2 is open for scoring. At such time the round is open, you will see the leaderboard of the top 10 essays, generated from the Round 1 combined average scores.
We have again tried to simplify this scoring round for you and adopted a star rating system. Rating will allow 1-10 in half-point increments by sliding your mouse pointer across the stars located below essays.
A feature to compare two essays side by side was developed allowing you to select two essays from the leaderboard and open both for a side-by-side comparison. Captions will be visible below each essay according to the image from the essay you are viewing. Also, a popup box link is available in case you wish to refer back to the essay description.
After you select the rating for each essay, you can save that rating. Each essay rating can be saved separately or both at the same time. Saving a rating for just one of the two compared essays will allow the unsaved essay to remain in your leaderboard in case you wish to compare it side-by-side with another essay.
