Being a documantary photographer, I should always search and investigate about an inspirational story that affects me and my surrounding.
Qusai Al Yousef is an electrical power engineer and an athlete, who has several international certificates in the fields of training and nutrition, was shot, in 2012, by a random bullet at the bottom of his heart and lost a lot of blood, but because of the bad sterilization conditions,during blood transmission, he got complications in his liver which was diagnosed, in 2014, as a liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma) in the third stage.


As a result, he had several treatment protocols that caused hair loss, pain in all his body (after every chemo dose),fever, loss of appetite and general weakness in his body. After two years of suffering, he defeated his illness temporarily but the disease had returned with more spread in liver, lungs and lymph nodes near the aorta.
Qusai is one of my friend. I have been with him in most of his chemo doses, from whom I felt that I have derived the strength and patience despite of the heart problems he is suffering from and the pain that makes him lose the ability to breathe. Most of the time he was revived after which we can continue our conversation about the best exercises that help me in my personal training. He told me that this is the last treatment protocol he can stand because the veins, in most of his body, are getting fibrous and it has become difficult to take chemotherapy doses, so he has had a surgery to insert a devise in his chest called Port-A-Cath that connected to a tube directly to his heart to complete the course treatment by it.
The thirties gentle young man is a really inspiring person, he has determination and insistence which make you feel that he can defeat his illness only by his smile.
During every dose he raises his two fingers to tell me that despite all of his suffering and pain he will overcome his disease .
After returning home, he wakes up in the next day, getting over the side effects of the dose and goes to the gym to practise his daily sports to reach the best sportive body which represents the most difficult task with all the health challenges he faces, so you can not predict that the owner of this body, who has cancer, is cheerful and smiley and can spread optimism to all people around him despite everything he endures. In fact, Everyone listens to him talking about his illness thinks that he is talking about a cold or flu.
This person, despite all the bitterness and mess inside him, appears to the world in an elegant and healthy way, the thing that encourged some patients to talk to him about their experiences and he invests all the possible ways to help those people who suffer from cancer.
One of his greatest wishes and dreams is to open psychological and physical rehabilitation center in Syria for cancer patients during and after the treatment to reach his message to the biggest number of beneficiaries.
He always says" great hopes create great people"
